The Rotterdam edition of Dancing on the Edge started on Sunday 6 December in the main auditorium of the Rotterdamse Schouwburg. The opening performance of 'The Assassination of Omar Rajeh' was preceded by introductions from the Mayor of Rotterdam, Ahmed Aboutaleb, and festival director Gary Feingold. Cloud
Tijdens de wereldpremière in Amsterdam en latere vertoningen in Den Haag en Groningen is Cloud, van de Nederlandse Duda Paiva en de Iraanse Yaser Khaseb, zeer enthousiast ontvangen door bezoekers (zie videoimpressie). Op 12 december is deze bijzondere voorstelling nog één keer in de Rotterdamse Schouwburg. In Cloud proberen Paiva en Khaseb , die ieder furore op de (inter)nationale podia met bijzondere combinaties van dans, mime, theater en poppenspel, een gezamenlijke taal te vinden. Cloud

Äataba
Dansgezelschap Anania en choreograaf Taoufiq Izzediou maken tijdens Dancing on the Edge nog hun opwachting in Utrecht (op 9 december) en Rotterdam (op 10 december). Äataba ('de drempel' in het Arabisch) onderzoekt de tegenstrijdigheden tussen het gedrag van het individu en de moraal van de gemeenschap in Marokko. Wat van Marokkaanse burgers wordt verwacht en hoe er feitelijk wordt geleefd verschilt dikwijls als dag en nacht. Regisseur en choreograaf Taoufiq Izzediou: 'Het levendige, sensuele nachtleven speelt zich af in de kelders van bars, clubs en disco's - aan het gezicht onttrokken, maar niet illegaal. Op straat regeren zakelijkheid en religie. Daar verstopt men zichzelf onder lagen kleding en achter beheerst gedrag.' Äataba
Dance company Anania and choreographer Taoufiq Izzediou have yet to make their entrance during Dancing on the Edge. This will take place in Utrecht on 10 December. Äataba ('the threshold' in Arabic) examines the contradictions between the behaviour of the individual and the morals of the community in Morocco. The behaviour expected of Moroccan citizens and the way they actually live are often as different as night and day. According to director and choreographer Taoufiq Izzediou, "the lively, sensual nightlife takes place in the basements of bars, clubs and discos, which are hidden from view but not illegal. On the streets, it is business and religion that rule, with people hiding beneath layers of clothing and controlled behaviour". Äataba

Mourning en Ticket to Paradise
In een volle zaal van de Brakke Grond (Amsterdam) beleefde Mourning zijn wereldpremière en Ticket to Paradise zijn voorpremière. Nu zullen deze voorstellingen, die door het publiek zeer enthousiast ontvangen zijn, nog in Rotterdam (op 11 december) en Utrecht (op 12 december) te zien zijn. Mourning is in opdracht van het Internationaal Danstheater (Amsterdam) gemaakt door choreograaf en theatermaker Muhanad Rasheed (Irak). Ticket to Paradise is een beeldende collage-voorstelling van theatergroep DOX en choreograaf Sassan Saghar Yaghmai, waarin dans, spel en beweging elkaar in dynamisch tempo afwisselen. These two productions, which were received with great enthusiasm by the audience, will have further performances in Rotterdam (on 11 December) and Utrecht (on 12 December). Mourning was created on commission from the International Dance Theatre (Amsterdam) by choreographer and theatre maker Muhanad Rasheed (Iraq).
